Subject: Capturing video from the JVC HM-DH30000 d-vhs recorder to the computer

I just bought the JVC HM-DH30000 d-vhs video recorder. It works with HD and has the i-link 1394 ports in and out. My question is, I wanted to use it to capture from video tapes to my computer. I plugged it into my computer (my computer has XP on it), and my computer thought it was a av/dv tuner or something like that, but had no software drivers to load for it. So, I was not able to get the computer to capture from it. I called JVC and asked them if this system was capable of outputting the video signal to the computer through the 1394 port, and they said, "Yes, but we don't support that". They said something along the lines of, "you would have to tell windows that it is a dv camcorder so that XP would recognize it, then you would have to make sure it was looking for an MPEG2 signal, because that is what the signal comes out as." That was the most information I could get out of them. This system was quite expensive, and I would really like to see it work for this. I can hook it up to another capturing device (similar to a Dazzle) and send the signal out the S-video to this capturing device, but that is not what I want to do. I want to go directly from the recorder through the 1394 port to my computer. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. My email is "elsass@ctaz.com". Thanks!

Paul
