...it will probably be the same... but D tapes are 300' at the least and thus thinner than any S tape.
Use professional S tapes instead - it won't be that expensive and amount to the best quality possible.

Pro tapes are the ones sold in hard cases, such as the Fuji and Maxell BQ series (the latter being probably the best) or the TDK XP-Pro (slightly not as good).
It also depends on the deck you're using... A cheap deck won't allow you to see the differences in the tapes' quality.

Check the various web sites, such as www.tapeonline.com.

ps. remember always to make a complete wind/rewind cycle for any new tape you're about to use.
