Although that port will accept a six pin firewire cable, it is not actually called a firewire port. It can only be used with selected D-VHS VCRs such as the RCA vr911hf, Hughes HDR-205 and Hitachi VTDX815A. I use these standard definition DirecTV VCRs and I am very happy with the results. The manual will explain this also.
