My husband wants to be able to record off of our Satellite Dish at home on our VHS system. Can this be done? If so, please explain and what equipment would he need to do this.

A VHS deck! Or better, a DVHS deck.

I'm not familiar with satellite gear but it seems some were/are provided with a firewire (aka iLink, aka DV) output which should allow owners of a DVHS deck to record through it (thus avoiding a digital/analog & analog/digital cycle).

If not, use the regular S Video output (if you have a D or S deck) or the even more regular Composite output (if you have a regular VHS deck).
