The following information is from Chuck Burgess at Music Reports, Inc. Some musician friends of Dick Fegy are beginning to put together a memorial gathering to honor his life. Details are very vague at the moment, but so far it looks like it will take place sometime this Saturday. Two places have been mentioned so far as possible sites, either at Vincenzo's Restaurant in Santa Clarita or possibly at a friends house in the Hollywood Hills. It is possible that it could happen at another site but those two places are the most likely at this point. Either way, It'll be somewhere in the area. This will not be a formal funeral but more of a celebration of his life, with lots of music and happy tributes. I'm sending this email to give all of his co-workers as much notice as possible. I'll pass along more information as soon as I receive it but in the meantime I'd like to ask for an informal headcount. If you think you could definitely go, or if you know you definitely cannot go, please let me know. When we know how many people from the company will likely attend it'll help determine where and when this will take place.

Or does anyone even know where in Connecticut he lives and how to get hold of him??? Let me know if you hear of an East Coast gathering. Thanks, and love to you, Donna and luke. Kate

Hello, Neil, David, and so many others. Have been in touch with Jay and Molly, and asked if they knew of an east-coast memorial. Would help make the connects and can offer a space in Albany, one of Dick's early '70s stomping grounds. Connecticut, Massachusetts, or Saratoga (Lena's) may be more appropriate. Or maybe through Jay and Molly's show "Dancing on the Air." Have talked with so many old friends from Saratoga to Chicago, Providence to Edinburgh, and points in between this week. Fegy always did have a way of bringing us quietly together.

I will hold on to long New England drives in his black Volvo, walks and adventures, music in so many living rooms and kitchens, festivals and green rooms, quiet observations, astonishing music, finely crafted words, twinkling eyes, flying fingers, and a simply wonderful human being.

I am so terribly saddened to hear of Dick's early passing. As the tears fall, I remember such a gentle kind man, who played his instrument with the feeling and expertice. He used to come in and sit in with Crazy Hearts and would be such a welcome guest!! Over the years we had kept in touch from time to time had lunch and I had seem him about 4 months ago at Viva, and he was so sweet and said such kind and encouraging things to me. He was a humble, and gentle. He will be missed!

I've known Dick since I came to California in 1979, and seen him accompany so many at the Palomino and other folk and country clubs, have socialized with him and so on. He was a fine, tasteful fiddler, and it was sad that he had to give it up because of the carpal tunnel syndrome. He was a gentle, quiet man with a droll sense of humor and had exquisite taste in music and musicians. I learned a lot hearing him say why one reputed guitarist or fiddler was "sloppy" and not as good as the one less celebrated. The last time I saw him, maybe eight months ago, I had been quite ill myself. It was at Viva Fresh, a Mexican restaurant which used to have the best fiddle nights around. He was sitting talking with someone, and we exchanged some talk and he said how much he enjoyed working for (I think it was a copyright company), in Burbank, although he'd given up full-time music.

I still don't know what he died of?

Hi Jan,
I heard of Dick(ie)'s passing after the memorial on the west coast was arranged. I am one of his friends since Jr High school days. I would love to hear from you about the memorial -- who was there, what it was like. Dick was a good friend of mine. Do you know what the cause of his death was? It has bothered me since I heard of his passing (a year after the fact.) Marty (his brother) hasn't written me back or gotten in touch with me. Any light you could shed on his passing might alleviate some of my tears. I miss him so much. Please write. Meg Smith

I'd love to hear about any celebration being put together in his memory.
