Good one on the comparison to Achilles vs. Hector, however, in the "Illiad," Hector flees the battleground every time he knows Achilles is there, because he's afraid of dying at his hands, which he knows will happen for sure (prophecy and what not). He only shows up and becomes Patrocles' murderer when he knows for a fact Achilles is sitting on his ship, disgruntled at everybody else in the Greek army for not giving him a fairer share of the spoils.

By the same token, Achilles is an unwilling "hero." Though invulnerable by the soaking in the Styx river at the hands of his mother, he's hidden for most of his life, in drag, in the court of King Scyrus, which is where Ulysses finds him. It is only then, when pressured, that he accepts going to Troy to help get Helen back.
