I too am very distressed at the whole Buffy-Spike relationship right now, and the upcoming rape attempt. I really don't like the direction that they are going in with this one, but I think the reason that they are doing it, is to show exactly how desperate Spike is for Buffy to return his feelings for her. I think that they're trying to show just how far he has gone or would fo for her, and how different that is from what he used to, or should, be. This, in turn, sets up his leaving and going to Africa to get his chips out, and "return to what he used tobe." Now whether this means William or the Spike of season two....well, I guess we'll all just have to wait and find out. Everything will come together in the end- I have confidence.
