In reply to: S. Rhee 's message, "What does UBF have against the local church?" on 00:42:28 09/25/02 Wed

I think one reason UBF looks down on churches is because UBF has narrowly defined mission to *only* mean 1:1 campus ministry. Never is caring for one's family, enjoying our relationship with God, or other aspects of our "mission" ever mentioned.

I grew up in UBF... while there, all I heard was sheep, sheep, sheep. All the messages always had to do with carrying your cross, obeying (your teachers) by faith, suffering for the cross, etc. Christian life had no appeal for me then.

It was only out of UBF (and through building relationships with Christians in churches) that I first understood the gospel. It was then that I understood that all our works are a joke... that is, when they are apart from Christ.

It was also outside that I learned that it's okay to take a break. In fact, sometimes it's good to just do nothing, and to just mediate on who God is... and just enjoy him. (Remember the difference between Mary and Martha? Luke 10:38-42) UBF overemphasies works and looks down on others (i.e., churhes) that are not as busy as them.
