Subject: When to harvest pinecones

Must start out by saying I love this whole VoyForum. Everything is so new and fresh, and not the same old, same old. I do have a question. I have always gathered my pinecones in the fall but someone told me I should gather them in the spring. Are they here in the spring?? Could someone please tell me when is the best time to get them. Please don't laugh but I get mine at the cemetary. We have one cemetary that is just full of pinetrees and there are pinecones all over the place. I have always gone and got them in the fall. Can you find them in the spring???
Thank you, Nanairish

I am doing research about what a pinecone is, what role it plays in the life cycle of cone-bearing trees, and why some trees have them while others don't. Could you give me some info. about this

>My sisters and I went out this last weekend and could barely find any pinecones. We live in Suffolk County on long Island, NY.
Any ideas, on why we could hardly find a single pinecone???
Kathy
