香港賽馬會賽馬事務執行總監利達賢說：「國際騎師錦標賽今年舉行第十屆競逐，世界各地的頂級騎師將會在全球最別具特色的跑馬地馬場大鬥騎功。這確是一項名副其實的國際馬壇盛會，亦是十二月九日國泰航空香港國際賽事之前的序幕戰。」


「今年國泰航空國際騎師錦標賽，邀得加拿大頂級騎師韋羡妮來港獻技，是歷來首次有女將參與競逐。韋羡妮在大賽中屢獲佳績，今年初更成為第一位勝出加拿大三冠大賽首關女皇碟的女騎師。」利達賢補充說。


四屆法國冠軍騎師柏兆雷，今年將第九次角逐國際騎師錦標賽，創下一項紀錄，而七屆香港冠軍騎師韋達，今次則是連續第八次代表香港出賽。


十二位騎師的坐騎均以抽籤方式決定，賽後按照所獲名次計分。三關賽事合計，取得總分最高者即為冠軍，可獲獎金二十萬元，並獲頒獎盃；而亞軍則可獲獎金十萬元。
