At the age of 48 I am finally analyzing why I feel such dislike and anxiety towards teachers in general. I had a teacher in 3rd grade who allowed the boys in my class throw rocks at me at recess while he stood by and laughed ... he wanted me to realize how boys feel about fat girls. I had another teacher in 9th grade who would make me say my name over and over again because I spoke so softly. Teachers pick on shy kids. I had a teacher in 2nd grade who wouldn't allow us to go to the bathroom when we needed to, so when I was writing on the chalkboard in front of the whole class, I ended up making a puddle on the floor. I had a teacher who humiliated a student who's mom just died the week before by making him wear a barrett in his hair all day because his hair was down to his collar...this was in the 60's and long hair for boys wasn't quite accepted yet. Teachers tend to be people who really don't like children, but they choose to teach because it allows them to be in charge and mis-use the authority they are given. Bad teachers can make a student want to die. I know. I've been there.
