What gets me is how people actually manage to make sense of the Bible, despite all of its contradictions. They make sense of it by ignoring the passages they don't like.

For example, In Matthew, Mark, and Luke, Jesus teaches that heaven is attained through one's good works (check out Matthew 16:27 for one of many examples), and that heaven is a state of inner peace ("And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The Kingdom of God cometh not with observation: Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! For behold, the kingdom of God is within you." [Luke 17:20-21]). But the Gospel of John and the writings of Paul teach otherwise, that only faith can save a person.

Of course, most Christian churches follow the teachings of Paul more than of Christ, and the teachings of the Gospel of John, which is totally different in its theology than the other three Gospels.

And you are right - whatever religion one belongs to is the one true religion. *sigh* I think that alone disproves most, if not all, religions alive today.
