That is one of the dangers of psychiatry. If the psychologist tells the patient something, the patient will often accept it wholeheartedly, often creating a self-fulfilling prophecy. We don't act in accordance with the truth; the act in accordance to what we believe to be true.

A parent can tell a child something the child did as a little kid, and, with enough application of imagination, the child can actually "remember" it - even if the story was a complete fabrication. It is very easy for a psychologist to manipulate emotions, which is a key ingrediant to memory manipulation.

Our grasp of truth and reality is frighteningly fragile.
