Dalek is only the beginning of an very interesting series of episodes. "A Long Game" is in some ways a calm before the storm, with Dalek just a hint of things to come. But "Long Game" has a great casting (Simon Pegg) that makes it a bit fun and it does hint a few things for the end of the first season as well. Dalek however really brought the Daleks back on track as deadly killing machines -- and it also helps end one arc (the Doctor with survivors guilt) to allow him to get a bit more to his true self (but the 9th will never get fully beyond the guilt, and only, from what little I hear, the 10th is when he really takes charge).
Also, if you visit the BBC site (bbc.co.uk/doctorwho) be sure to see the second TARDISODE which gives a 50 second werewolf encounter!
Showtime last year did a "Masters of Horror" series and Stuart Gordon did "Dreams in the Witchhouse." I thought it was one of the better Lovecraft adaptations I have seen (the Cthlulhu b/w silent movie is also good, btw) -- though it is clearly an adaptation (set in modern times, a romantic interest at one point) it really keeps to the general theme and feel. I've seen a few who did not like it, but most I think understood it won't be identifical and would be updated.. if you can accept that, then I think it is great.
