Found this (old) question when looking for the posted "unus ignis quis ..." sentence.
A translation into any other language than german doesn't make any sense at all. It's a "joke", and it works only when translated into german:
unus = ein = one
ignis = feuer = fire
quis = wer = who
vir = mann = man
multum = viel = many
ab = vom = from
audere = wagen = to dare
et dicit = und sprach = and said
studium = Eifer = eagerness
fuga = Flucht = Escape
meum = mein = my
impedire = hindern = detain
the whole sentence, translated word by word into german:
ein Feuer wer Mann viel vom Wagen und sprach Eifer Flucht mein Hindern.
it reads like:
Ein Feuerwehrmann fiel vom Wagen und sprach: ei, verflucht, mein Hintern.
Which, translated into english is:
A fireman dropped off the/a car/carriage and said: yikes, dammit! my butt.
