this is rediculous:
There is something I don't quite understand in all of this: The supreme court decides whether they are going to hear a case on a particular subject or not. They often decide not to schedule a particular case simply because it is presently a political bombshell.
So why in the world did they decide to bring this case forward? For conflict is the only answer I can figure.
I don't know what they thought it would accomplish.

Second: If any kid doesn't want to say 'under god' then he simply doesn't have to. There, problem solved. It doesn't change the meaning of the pledge any really. I don't think we should take the words out of the pledge. Belief in God is one of the principles that this nation was built on, and there is no reason to not declare it so in any and all schools.
I think we had better figure out what we will lose when we tell our kids that we are no longer a nation under God.

Under the current rigeme it is prohibited to pray in school. It is prohibited to teach about God or beliefs.
Students aren't even allowed to lead prayers themselves.

I hear that when planes started falling on the government in washington, the government declared that it is temporarily legal for schools to pray as long as it is for them :)

The constitution is supposed to protect rights of worship, instead the government is prohibiting rights.
Seperation of church and state is not specifically mentioned in the constitution. What is said is that the government cannot ordain a particular religion as the state-religion. It cannot prohibit any religion.

I agree with Mountaineer: It's wonderful to be in the one nation in the world where it is legal to wish for the downfall of our government. It's legal to be totally against the government and to believe that everything they do is terrible.

In the present political atmosphere I could get shot for saying that.

It is scary to hear President Bush say, 'if you are not with us, you are against us' and proceed to say we can bomb and shoot any nation that is not with us or does not agree with us.

Does that mean that if I do not agree with President Bush then the government can shoot at me too?
