Subject: Adilbrand Noblesword's Hall of Warriors Revw of Books: Extreme Denial by David Morrell

Genre: fiction (action/thriller)
Published: 1996 by Warner Books

Short summary:

Steven Decker is a CIA operative who retires after an anti-terrorist operation led by the son of a well-connected and legendary operative goes horribly wrong and ends up killing 23 Americans, despite Decker's futile attempts to end the operation and prevent the deaths. Decker is wrongly blamed for the botched operation (in order to protect the son of the legend) and he decides to quit.

What does a retired operative do? In this case, he heads off to Santa Fe, New Mexico, forgets his former life and becomes a successful real estate agent. Eventually, he meets and falls in love with Beth Dwyer and all seems perfect until the violence and intrigue of his former life comes back in the form of late night attacks by hit squads and the disappearance of Beth. Decker goes back to the way of life he has spurned to get Beth back and answer new questions he has about her...

The chase becomes a hunt and Decker is both predator and prey several times over.

My review:

A great action thriller. Period. Good characters. Great action. The plot contains wonderful twists and turns as the reader discovers who the real bad guys are. This would make an awesome movie!

I give this book an "A"
