Yes, the fan scene reminded most people of Galaxy Quest when they saw it. It probably was one of the weakest parts of the episode to me --- but I guess they wanted to show the Doctor's ability to catch the "Zen" of the moment or something. Nonetheless, of the RTD stories and scriptus, Ep 2 is my favorite -- it is fun, and has a good character piece for Rose trying to figure out if she really knows what she is doing being with the Doctor ( most will say the two-part end of Season One is his best, which has many good moments-- very very very good moments -- but for some reason other bits drive it down on my list).

Te first time around watching new Who I would say Ep 6 was my favorite for sheer fun, but Ep 3 is my overall favorite -- it might not have as much edge of your seat action moments as some later stories, but I just love the character study and transformation of Dickens. It is not what you will expect, and it just works for me. Sort of a mini-example of what is happening to Mickey (Rose's boyfriend) throughout the series -- by the second season he is to become a companion for at least half the season (with rumors he stays behind in an alternative earth to help fight the new version of Cybermen, but those are rumors so nothing is being spoiled-- and even if true means he probably will be in the season ending which has the Cybermen again).
