Subject: Lose face to who?

Mac puts out regular patches
Linux puts out regular patches

So who, exactly, is standing in their ivory tower passing judgement on MS? How does identifying and fixing a problem cause MS to "lose face"?

Operating systems are some of the most complex things ever built. The inner relationships between the components is mind boggling for me, a professional programmer. It's far more complex than a car or any electronic appliance in your house.

I have written programs far simpler than the products that MS put out and bugs are virtually impossible to eliminate and what people complain about with MS aren't technically bugs -- they're interfaces with weaknesses that can be exploited.

People complain about MS because there's no one else to complain about. Mac is a joke -- MS had to step in and bail them out so that they could conveniently maintain the illusion of having a competitor.

Linux is starting to gain ground as a viable web server but has stayed under the bug radar since they still make up a very small portion of the boxes on the web -- but they'll prove just as security prone as MS is. Just a month ago, someone found a exploit that would give a user access to the system's password table . . . oopsie!

MS gained their market share with the DOS partnership with IBM but have has remained ahead of their competition by producing quality products.
