Subject: A tie-in with this week's news in Iran
In reply to: Mt. Healthy Mountaineer, your intrepid reviewer 's message, "ANHOW Review of Books: "A Time to Die: The Untold Story of the Kursk Tragedy" on 14:59:00 01/04/04 Sun

As I was reading this book and marvelling at Russia's unwillingness to accept Western help due to pride and at the expense of more than a dozen men, I heard that Iran is refusing to accept American and Israeli aid with their earthquake crisis in the city of Bam. If you have not heard, approximately 30,000 people were killed by the earthquake and anywhere from 50,000 - 100,000 are totally without homes, food, water or any clothing besides what is on their backs.

I marvel at the misplaced pride it takes to refuse a shirt or water just because it came from an American or a Jew. I also marvel that it is the leaders of the country that are refusing this help - not the victims. I would dare say that precious few people who are naked and thirsty would ask if the water was touched by a Jew before they drank it or would refuse a blanket for their child just because it came from Texas.

Iran also refused to allow our disaster search and rescue teams to help - even when they had originally been given permission to come and help. They had to turn around over Europe and come home.

True leadership in action - keeping an eye out for the little guy who might get contaminated by Americans while they are pulling his children out of the rubble and giving them Jewish clothing so they won't freeze to death! Better to die!

I am reminded of Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir's comment about the prospect of Arab-Israeli peace: "There will never be peace with the Arabs until they love their children more than they hate the Jews."
