ANHOW Review of Books: "Dead Irish" by John T. Lescroart

Synopsis: A family friend of former cop Dismas Hardy has apparently killed himself. This doesn't sound right to the deceased's family and friends so they persuade Hardy to do some extra looking into it before the police label it a suicide. Hardy does dig up a lot of information and eventually is able to tie it all together. Along the way we meet a priest who still carries a torch for the victim's mother, a gay Latino publisher who is desperately trying to hide his sexual orientation from the Latino community so that they won't reject his upstart newspaper and we get some insight into the meaningless meanderings of the last five years of Hardy's life.

My review: Pretty good book. A couple of times it almost made me late leaving for work in the morning so that's as good as you can expect, isn't it. The ending was not-so-hot, however, so I have to drop the grade some.

I give it a "B".
