Subject: Thoughts on the war...

I am not a great supporter of war. There are wars, however, that are fought with great and lofty purpose and those that are not. I do not claim to understand the real motives behind Bush's plan. Is it oil? Is it liberation? Is it safety? Is it all of these things? Is it madness? All I know, upon reflection, is that good may actually come of it. Men will die. People will suffer. Yet, from all accounts (and supposing that the accounts are true), the suffering the people undergo on a daily basis there is far greater than any the US could impose upon them with bombs.

I, for one, would fight for my freedom, had I the strength to do it. Just as our own forefathers fought against tyranny, in a war none of us would ever think to denounce, I, too, would fight for my own liberty. All motives aside, I can only hope that the people of Iraq will in fact be liberated and that they will experience more freedom than they ever have had before.

I have thought about this for some time, and I think it is naive for any man to regard the United States as separate from other countries. It is also naive to believe that we are somehow not responsible for criminals in the world. I know, of course, that we have taken on this role ourselves, but it is foolish to think that we are not heading toward a sort of world unification. The world may denounce our efforts, now, but in the end, they will be forced to see that as a world we can not ignore men such as Saddam Hussein.

I am not a supporter of war. I am not a supporter of Bush. I am not a supporter of anything, really. But what I believe is that if we as people of the world would like to move toward a global unification and peace, then we must acknowledge that such actions are, indeed, necessary. Just as we would not allow a man to bomb our own embassies here, so too must the world come together and take action against its own "world criminals".

I leave such policies and ideas to the politicians. I am not a man who concerns himself with what goes on in the world. Yet, upon thinking about the present war, I have come to the conclusion that we must start from the realization that the world is moving toward a certain vision, and that vision can only be furthered if we take action to suppress men whose intentions are ill.

Anyway, that's my two cents for the day.
