Subject: TO MVD: Why I post here...

I first came across this forum (and any type of forum room) around this time last year. As you may recall, I made some brash statements and boldly proclaimed that you are all going to hell. (Except perhaps for Mt. Healthy Mountanier) Well, I quickly changed my approach to this room. I've even offered my own book review, made some Star Wars comments, and been interested in your takes on LOTR's, and various movies.

I have been in the "Christian Salt-shaker" most of my life. With the exception of a very screwed up adolescence, I have been protected by the Christian cocoon and have not had the opportunity to defend my faith.

While I think "on-line witnessing" is for closet Christians, I post here for the following reasons:
1) It challenges me to think!

I'll be the first to admit I did not learn how to "think" until I was 20 years old. A hard core concrete thinker, I started dealing with Abstracts for the first time only around 8 years ago. I love the challenge now. It is food to my brain.

2) I believe what I'm saying

Now, I don't really know if I can make any "converts" with my posts. That is not my intention (at least not my ultimate intention). But, balance is a key to life. You are going to jump on me for that statement b/c of my so called "unbalanced" worldview. I believe that the evidence is overwhelming. And, perhaps I have the hope that I can say (write) something that will challenge you guys as well.

3) It's fun

I like the banter! I like debate. While I still may not be very good at it, how I form my thoughts here will help me when I am encountered with these challenges off-screen.

4) It's relaxing

I wonder how you guys may picture me!?! Do you see me red in the face, with my Bible in my lap, polyester suit, slicked back hair, and Sandi Patty music playing in the background? (If you don't know Sandi Patty, save yourselves the torture!) That's not me! I'm a 28-year-old youth pastor who's attending seminary in Cleveland, TN. (just started last fall, and I disagree with some of my previous arguments after some research -- i.e. questions of authorship, textual criticism, etc., but still believe in the inerrancy of scripture).

OH, and I discovered this site by reading an essay posted by Vince entitled, "Why I am not a Christian." At the bottom of this essay (which I recall tearing apart last year) was a link to "Visit Vince's Forum to Discuss RELIGION AND PHILOSOPHY". I believe that is a direct quote. I can no longer find that web site for the essay.

Why promote a forum as such if you don't want a classic, Wesleyan-Holiness-Pentecostal perspective. You have your mainline Lutheran here,I think I add some spice...after all, Jesus called me to be the "salt of the world!"
