This conversation has already pretty much said the things that I would have said, but I thought I'd charm in and agree with MVD for a change!

Bbo: It's wierd that society continues to try to keep women in shackles even after the successes of "Women's Lib". They've just traded the bonds of patriachy for their own self-imposed ones of consumerism.

Mtneer: Take Cosmopolitan magazine for example. Its supposed to be a female version of the original concept of Playboy w/out the nudity. Instead, it features a luscious cover girl who would make Barbie feel inadequate and articles about how to lose weight quickly and how to please men in bed. (Thank you ultra-feminist Helen Gurley Brown - your magazine is so different than all the others in that ...uh...Oh Yeah! The cover models make men ogle women in the supermarket check out lane and ... now women have to worry about how they give oral sex because the headline screams that he'll leave you NOW unless you do it just right. Extra special! The irony of an ultra-feminist who has made her reputation telling women to stand up on their own but also tells women that they HAVE TO give headjobs to their boyfriends now or they'll lose him and have to be on their alone and on their own - as though being alone is somehow worse than being with a man who would be so shallow as to leave a woman because he doesn't get enough blowjobs.)

On more of a general note, as a high school teacher, I regularly see attractive young girls starve themselves because they are just sure that 5'6" and 110 lbs. is overweight. It's disturbing to see.

Have you seen "Deuce Bigelow, male Gigalo?"(Sp?) He makes a comment on what he's learned about women to a man with a very thin penis. He tells him that the inadequacy that this man feels about just his penis is felt by women about every part of their bodies, such as big feet, too tall, too much hair in the wrong places, etc. I thought it was a decent observation for a silly movie.
