Alas, my field has so poorly marketed itself that you (and doubtless, others) are not aware of what social studies is. It is:

Economics
history
political science
sociology
psychology
anthropology

It is not making sure that Johnny knows how to share and that Suzie knows that it is not polite to pass gas at the dinner table. Those would be, at best, a subset of the study of sociology, and are not learned in an academic manner unless doing cultural comparisons.
