I just got this so-called "E-Mail" from Martie . . . I found it so beautiful I wanted to share it with you guys. It seemed somewhat germane to some of the contentment discussions but I found nowhere to add it so decided here was good enough:

I walked from the Convento di Santa Croce just now down to the town and found the e-box (as they call it here) available, and since it is siesta time here, and nothing else is open, thought I'd write you an e-mail. Figuring out where the characters are on this keyboard is quite interesting, actually! I just wanted to tell you that I love you and miss you very much. This has got to be absolutely, positively, the most amazing and incredible experience of my life!!! The only thing that would make it more fantastic is if you were here to enjoy it with me. There is so much I want to tell you about...seeing the big dipper last night so clearly, and seeing a shooting star as well...the amazing views...the oppressive 110 degree or so heat...staying up until 3 or 4 because of the heat on the terraces, talking with people from all over the world...having a whole opera production going on right under my window...showering in a 17th century bathroom on a terra cotta floor...the cast playing mysterious games all around us, leading up to a party with the theme of a British soap opera...long talks into the night with Jeanne (great girl talks)...having the most amazing balsamic vinegar, olive oil, cheese, bread, and wine at every meal...the stunningly beautiful music and singers...playing with Judson who is so incredible as a violinist...our lovely conductor...the ways all the English people speak to us...the gelato...having my hair dry in the sun in like 2 minutes from the heat...all of the laughing that is going on from everyone...hearing the sound of the Italian people talking....these old men in this bar playing cards and talking loudly in Italian to each other...the old women sitting outside their homes and saying buena sera as I walk by...the constant sounds of these birds with rhythmical calls and the buzzing of cicadas all night...the smell of the pines and of porcini cooking in the kitchen...practicing in an underground root cellar called the grotto...having cast members saying there is a ghost...cast members going around all day dressed as members of the Sicilian mafia just for fun...being encouraged to drink the beer in the fridge because they need the cans for props...rehearsing until midnight...sitting and thinking for a long time about the monks who were in this place before us...wondering about all the people who slept in this room before me...long hallways lit only with candles...an outdoor shower with a tortoise and a frog living there...the feeling of a cold shower actually feeling so great on very hot skin...everyone pretty much drinking from water bottles constantly...lots of sitting and reading and talking...reading from books in the library...exploring all around...the most amazing breeze coming up at precisely the right moment...doing the dishes with the costumemakers son from England...reading chamber music together...every time we drive anywhere being a little adventure...and all the time I get to play baroque music on my fiddle...I could go on and on...I just simply can't even begin to describe how lucky I feel to be here...it's an experience I will never forget...
