Subject: national ID cards

I have always been opposed to National ID cards for the simple reason that they don't work. (politically, it smacks a bit too much of Nazism and Communism for me, but that's beside the point). 10 years ago I watched a 60 minutes reporter take $250 to a Hispanic neighborhood in Los Angeles and within 3 hours he had a forged set of documents - Driver's license, birth certificate, soc. security card and a passport - that all passed for real when he took them around. Heck, they were real because the bad guys made them from stolen papers stock that came from the government sources.

What's the point when it can all be forged so easily?
