I've hearn no claims from the Bush Administration of the above. I've read it in various publications, heard interviews with former UN weapons inspectors, etc.

Sadaam runs a totalitarian regime - political dissent is not allowed. It would be most unwise to assume any sort of humanity towards his people on the part of Sadaam and his minions. And yes, I will use the most strident language possible to describe the vile dogs that work for this monster - they deny the most basic forms of political expression (source - 100% of the populace voted for him in the last election), spend their oil money on multi-billion dollar palaces for the leadership (Source: CNN, MSNBC, FOX) while they complain that America is starving their babies and use chemical weapons on Kurdish women and children (Source: 60 minutes).

Watch the scientists that the UN tries to interview. They refuse to talk with the UN at all. It could pe patriotism. It could be fear. If they confirm anything for the inspectors they or their families will pay - its better not to speak anything at all. Most run in fear.

It occurred to me there is a second flaw to your analogy - "Bob" was not convicted - he pled guilty and made a plea bargain (the cease-fire agreement) to which he promised to be forever open about his activities and never deny access to his actions (Source - Norman Schwarzkopf, the man who wrote the cease-fire in an interview on MSNBC). If "Bob" reneges on his part of the plea bargain he would, of course, be stuck back in jail.

Once again, I must stress that I'm not entirely conviced of the need to go to war. Sadaam is a nasty son of a bitch, but that is hardly the reason to take him out. On the other hand, I've heard some fairly convincing evidence that he financed the bombing of the military housing in Riyadh and the bombing of the USS COLE(source: CNN). He regularly fires at allied patrols in the no-fly zone (Source: Evening news about 20 times a year for the last 5 years). He's tried to buy weapons-grade plutonium (intercepted by Turkish secret police last year)(Source - evening news). All of those are hostile actions and are violations of the cease-fire agreement. In this case "Bob" is firing at the cops and some are telling the officers to wait until there's a smoking gun...
