Subject: Count Dracula makes bid for kingdom (germany)

A small German town is threatening to declare independence and call itself the Kingdom of Dracula in protest at the heavy-handed bureaucracy of the State Government.

Schenkendorf lies south of Berlin and its bid for independence is being led by a former antiques dealer who styles himself Count Vlad Dracula.

He says there will be no bureaucrats in the kingdom and the maximum tax rate will be 20 per cent.

The Government of Brandenburg has so far responded to the self-declared secession with humour, even though Count Dracula has started printing maroon-coloured passports and setting up signs marking the kingdom's borders.
