Subject: Eve of destruction deja vu?

It's strange to me how some things never lose their meaning. Take for instance "Eve of Destruction". As I understand it, Mr. Sloan wrote that song as a sort of prayer to God about the events that were going on in the world around 1964. Back then we had the Vietnam "conflict" going on (I still prefer to call it a war despite the government's stand) that was absolutely senseless. We had segregation issues going on mainly in the south between the african americans and the whites. We had a fear of being "lit up" by a nuclear weapon. We had people hating their neighbors yet attending chrch every time the doors were open. Okay........fast forward to 2006..........

We have yet another totally senseless war, this time going on in the Middle East. We have what I can only describe as segregation and immigration issues between many hispanics and americans. We live in fear of some terrorist attacking America with a nuclear "dirty bomb". We still have people that hate their neighbors and still go to church every time the doors are open.

Look at the similarities between 1964 and 2006. Amazing, isn't it?

I think "Eve of Destruction" should be given a LOT more air play these days to wake people up. We as a nation need to sincerely pray to God for peace just as Mr. Sloan did 42 years ago while writing "Eve of Destruction".

It's true what folks say about some things never going out of style. And "Eve of Destruction" is definately one of those things. :)
