Subject: WHAT'S EXACTLY THE MATTER WITH ME?

What's Exactly the Matter With Me? is a first person account of an extraordinary life and pilgrimage through the most fascinating years of American and English musical culture. This is the story of dreams, success, destruction and miraculous resurrection--the story of a boy whose only love was music. This is the incredible, heartbreaking and ultimately inspiring story of one of the greatest songwriters in American music: P.F. Sloan.

P.F. Sloan is one of the most mysterious, elusive, prolific and influential geniuses to emerge from the golden age of the 1960s. Sloan is one of the "Pioneers of Folk Rock." Between 1965 and 1967, one hundred and fifty of his songs were recorded by major acts, of which, forty-five made the charts. Nobody has come close to that number of hits in such a short period of time.

From his little studio at Dunhill, P.F. Sloan was a veritable "hit machine" for major acts such as The Mamas and Papas (it was Phil's infectious guitar lick on California Dreamin'), The Turtles, Jan and Dean (that was Phil on falsetto for most Jan and Dean's hits), The Searchers, Herman's Hermits, The Grassroots (Phll's studio invention) Betty Everett, The Fifth Dimension, Ann Margaret, Johnny Rivers (Phil wrote the iconic Secret Agent Man) and hundreds more. The folk world did not consider Phil to be "authentic" because he wrote so many successful pop songs--however, Bob Dylan, Phil Ochs and David Blue were great allies of P.F. Sloan. The music business considered him dangerous because of his controversial folk songs. Phil Sloan wrote so many songs and was on so many records--Dunhill sold him as seven different acts, he wound up exhausted and broken. Thus began his long journey into the wilderness--a journey of healing, of survival and resurrection.

What's Exactly The Matter With Me? is sure to inspire, amuse and entertain the reader.

"…absolutely none of 'em could beat ol' P.F. He started out writing surf songs, but shook the world by the throat with his masterpieces Eve Of Destruction and Sins of a Family… - Rolling Stone

"One of the most significant songwriters to ever match music with words." Paul Zollo, Songtalk Magazine
"…Don't sing this song, it belongs to P.F. Sloan, from now on…." - Jimmy Webb--from his ode to P.F. Sloan.
