It looked stupid because it was forced. Joss created Angel for Buffy, he believes they are the real deal or whatever, so he was looking for one last shining moment between the two. And as lame as it came across--I loved it--they are hot together more so than either of them have ever been with anyone else. During the first 3 seasons of Buffy, their scenes together were excellent, of couse I think that's partially because they were doing it off screen. Anyway just a little ratings booster is all it was and maybe a glimmer of hope for all those still nursing a wounded heart from the end of a bittersweet and ever painful star crossed lover realtionship.
