I understand your point Spags. No one wants war, except the political leaders and industries which have something to gain by it. I can understand your feelings about France, but it does take a lot of guts to stand up to a coalition such as that of America and the UK. Mind you their president has a reputation of doing his own thing, he incurred the wrath of all australians when they decided to test nuclear weapons on our doorstep a number of years ago. However, as much as I dislike the man I admire the way he acts in the best interest of his own country and isn't swayed in any way by others.

It breaks my heart to see what is going on in Iraq at the moment. However who is the bigger murderer? Saddam for doing what he does to his people, or our leaders for sending others (not their sons or daughters mind you) into war? Here in Australia there was a huge uproar as some navy personel were sent home for refusing the anthrax vaccine as it has been linked to Gulf War Syndrome. It has not been trialed or tested enough to know, but our government insists that they have it or they are court marshalled. Isn't that testing of a biological agent?

It is all too easy to label someone as good and another as bad. Did the parties involved really think that iraqis would just roll over and let them through? The only thing they would fear more than Saddam is Americans. They would have been fed all this propaganda about what Americans will do and these iraqis would be shaking in their boots. After the first gulf war when america pulled out they left behind the kurds who were fighting along side them and left them to the mercy of a violent regieme. Why would iraqis trust them again? They may not be fighting with the fire power or the technology but they have the home ground advantage as well as the passion to keep them going for a long time. I believe that this thing is going to go on for a hell of a lot longer than anyone expected and there will be more casualties than anyone imagined. Would you tolerate any other country entering yours and trying to "liberate" (another word for becoming exactly like them) you? Iraq is in no way ready for a democracy, do we really live in a democratic society anyway when we are fed only the information that the government deems we should hear rather than the truth, when people are silenced if their opinions should be at odds with those in power or when those making the decisions have no regard for the voices of the people who elected them? We are all being told what to think and how to feel and it is about time we all started to question and read between the lines. I will never trust our prime minister again to act in our best interests.

Where does it stop? Will it end with Iraq? Are the "allies" going to go into Zimbabwe(sp?) next? What about China? India are into nuclear weapons too. Are they on the list? Is this whole war about an insecure man trying to get his father's approval? It is food for thought.
