Near the corner of town, a single, frightened looking gnoll lurks. The black-furred doglike creature, covered in multiple cuts and wounds, whimpers a bit and leans against a tree. That... that thing had exploded into the camp and slain an entire score of armoured war-gnolls in mere moments. The only thing he remembered, among the screams and blood, was a massive brown shape. And the eyes. The burning, crimson eyes. Stumbling through the forest, leaving the now-burning war camp behind him, he thought he saw those eyes all around him, staring into and through him.

At least he lost it, though. There was no way something that big could move through the thick woods as quickly as him.

Hunkering down against the tree, the gnoll pulled a skin of milk from his belt and took a swig, never noticing the rapidly descending paw-

A little while later...

A hulking man strolls down the path toward town. Nearly seven feet tall, clad only in a rawhide/leather kilt and leather tunic, he doesn't look like the kind of man who has had or would ever have trouble on the road. He wears a bear-tooth and claw necklace, hanging low over his broad chest, and has a pair of massive black axes hanging at his sides, their blades notched from heavy use.

Rubbing a hang through his long black hair, he looks at the town, and then up at the sky. He mumbles to himself as he continues forward. "Mmm, this should be it."

In the woods, something watches. With burning, crimson eyes.
