"I never thought you so," she says. She looks up at him, searching... either within herself or without from the world... for what to say now. "But Tarkin, what you said..."

She glances around, suddenly self-conscious. She does not like being in the center of a town like this, in front of an inn. She feels so vunerable, both in the eyes of Tarkin and all those around them (though she doubts anyone is truly paying much mind). A fear suddenly seizes upon her and she wants to dash out of the town and submerge herself in the river. Any river or any stream. Someplace where she belongs. Oh! why did she ever bother with humans?! She has no place with them!

"Tarkin," she starts again, closing the space between them, "I never stopped." She looks into his eyes, watching him. Why should a man be so nervous? So shy and embarrassed? "Never. I never forgot you, I've gone hardly a day without thinking of you..." and she looks down, ashamed of her own desperation. Surely that would drive him away. "But you... you deserve a some beautiful, human girl, Tarkin, who could serve with you far better than I. I, the phooka, little more than a house cat," she says with a bitter smile. "You'll find her, and settle down somewhere beautiful, and have healthy sons and daughters to succeed you. And all memories of a little orange cat will have gone from your mind."
