A merchant had been happy. The dumpy, kinky-haired woman had been gleeful enough to dance a jig, if only if there had been some music to accompany her, other than her own, sour-tuned voice. Actually, it seemed quite sweet to herself, but she wasn't in the mood to sing 'Cherry Red Kisses' for the eighth time that day. Ah, how she pined to hear the airy sound of a viole da gamba..
But she was happy, even without gamba-music, until her little plan turned out rather, well.. stale.
HOW could ... HOW COULD the creatures she had so lured in and mind-conquered using all of her energy and manipulating skill -- how could those resilient beasts be weeded off so quickly by a band of .. nobodies!?
Or nobodies they seemed. The last remaining servent of hers straggled up, winded from his cowardly flight from the carnage that took place somewhere down in the forest. But she couldn't believe her ears: just an elf, and just a ranger, and both were taken on in a surprise attack! And he whispered frightened rumors of a vampire in daylight, although she hardly believed that. Those things sometimes didn't make any sense.. after all, they weren't even human.
Apparently, all her hard work to overrun the little village turned up for naught. After several of their buddies were slain, the bulk of the creatures had packed up and left, breaking her link on them frighteningly easy, and were now roaming the forests, terrorizing and spreading their disease everywhere. Their numbers weren't great enough for her to use for her devious plots, however, so after strangling the messenger with her chubby hands, this 'merchant' kicked the ratman aside and fell to her back, breathing out in despair and ditching the idea. She was so very tired, even if the day wasn't even half over yet.
She was Diz'reialle Starrkraftyr, although more commonly known as simply 'Devious Dezra', for this crude nickname suited her more. She had been a blacksmith before her customers had started to buy her enchanted weapons and were electrocuting themselves on the crude socketing spells. Quickly torn out of business, the crafty woman had become a merchant (she had been one before), traveled a few villages, and took residence next to this one in a well-used tent near the forest. She squinched together her moss-green eyes at this thought -- she had been living in these makeshift shelters for far too long, her back was getting weary of resting on rocks, and her feet irritable by the cold wind, not to mention her empty stomach. Unfortunately, Dezra had spent the rest of her little gold on the magical components from the nearest wizardry shop for her last get-rich-and-powerful-quick scheme, which failed in less than three hours. She had not even half a copper to buy herself a rest on a third of a bed at the inn, although she had four bottles of un-used shoe polish and three gently-used currying brushes, plus a whole cartload of other objects like it. With a groan, she hoisted her chunky body onto her feet, dusted off her stained, yet gaudy silk clothing, and forced herself into the road, where she might find business. She could do almost anything, maybe not all at a master's ease, but she had a plethora of common and uncommon skills (and merchandise) she could choose from to make a coin.
She saw elves .. ugh, they always quirked their noses funny when they looked at her or other humans. .. but then she fortunately heard her empty money-bag rustle in anticipation as she caught Caoilte saying something about needing an 'animal-healer or farrier'. She could heal animals! Of course, the animals hated her and ran away soon afterwards, but she knew the basic skills..
Forming her business-friendly smile which made her cheeks form plump little spheres, the copper-haired woman strode up to the stocky, travel-worn figure. She quickly eyed the horse, the green irises drawing themselves down to her injured leg.
"Well, there, I can help you! .. if you wish," she squeaked hopefully.
