Why a lady? Why is she always in White? Probably because thats what they see. This question bothered me for a long time because there is a "Lady-In-White" that seems to inhabit this house of mine . I bought this place 14yrs. ago with the intention of creating a year-round "haunted house business(which I have done)Before you might dismiss anything that I might say "out of hand", because, Yes , I do make my living entertaining people using supernatural settings and overtones,I have the utmost confidence in my "product" here to amply entertain the majority of the paying patrons that frequent this establishment, I really Don't need any "outside" help, but I have it , it came with the deed! The ghostly lady always shows up in the same corner of the winecellar,sometimes she just "floats" there, sometimes she glides across the room for about a distance of about a dozen feet(3 feet above the floor!)Sometimes she has been known to make a "grand-finale" exit by flying up through a 12by 12inch vent hole in the ceiling,dissapearing out of sight. When this happened(possibly the first time)in 1925, she was performing for the speakeasy tavern crowd,who would respond to her show by running ,screaming from the room, alcohol has a powerful draw, and a few days later, they would come back, but then she would come back, and they would have to leave again. I was told that this pattern went on for quite a period of time until she ruined their business! 62yrs. later, I buy the place, I know nothing of these incidents. The first year that I am open people begin telling me about a "Lady-In-White " that they are seeing appear in the N.E. corner of the winecellar, I believe at this time that they are fabricating their story until one day I realize that there is no way that all these people from all points of the compass, from 60 to 200 miles away could all know each other to get their storys coordinated. Then 6yrs. ago is when the elderly woman stopped and told me the storys from 1925, and the particulairs of the story match what people coming through have been telling me! The main difference being that in 1925, the Lady" was appearing "all over" this house!(Not something that my wife likes to think about!)This property was built to be an inn & tavern in 1870 ,it was also I'm sure a "house of ill repute" along the way, so the distinct possibility is there for numerous situations to generate strong "negative vibes". About 5yrs. ago at Easter, a family was here for a tour, it included the grandparents,3 generations of offspring, totaling about 9 people. When I told them that there was a ghost in the room, Grandpa said,"Well, if there's a "ghost" in the room, we'll take its picture!" Then he handed the camera to the one teen-age grandson while the rest of the family lined up across the back of the room, being "corn-ball"humorus,Grandpa said, "If there's a ghost in the room, it'll be right HERE,when the picture comes out!" as he proceeded to stick his arm out in mid-air as if he had it over and around an invisible entitys shoulder. (Very silly, I thought!) The photo was "snapped", a few minutes later the tour is over and we are all standing outside in the sunshine, Grandpa peels the old-style Polaroid film apart, and there above his outstretched arm in the picture is a big blue/grey "blob"(sort of rectangular)floating there about maybe about 10 feet above his head(the winecellar's ceiling is 16ft. high, a stone arch construction)At first I did not tell my patrons about this incident because the dynamics of the story sound so "hokey", sort of like a weak story a small child would make-up. I was fortunate that of the first few times that I did tell of this incident, the man's daughter would be making return visits, and would be there to verify what I was saying , this gave me the confidence to then repeat this "silly sounding "story. Most of the people who have seen her since Iv'e had the house go home from here very impressed with the "special FX" they think that I have just provided for them to see in the winecellar, if only they knew......
