Subject: Whats the significance of dead birds???

When I was in my teens we lived in an old farm house in Chester County, Pennsylvania. It was a 3 story house, pretty old. We inspected the whole house after we moved in. Sometime later my sister and I walked up to the third floor (which was unused cause the house was pretty big) and found about 30 dead birds up there. We told our mother and then we cleaned up. We checked every window, practically everywhere to find the source of it, but there was absolutely no way for these birds to get in (mostly finches). Does anyone know what this could have meant??
There were also other things happening, like we put a heavy rock infront of the door on the third floor to keep it open while we were up there (smoking a cigarette of course we weren't allowed to smoke) and the door would fall shut with the rock being pushed to the side. Another time I was repairing my bike in the basement and got called to dinner. While running up the stairs something brushed by me and pushed me but there was nothing there. I never went into the basement anymore. After we moved out I never had any other experiences of such kind, nor did I before we moved into this house.
