This was posted on the Cross & Stake posting board by someone called Pez... what do you think of their analysis???
PEZ: First to understand how she came back "wrong," we have to understand how she was "right" to begin with.
My interpretation is that a Slayer is a warrior who's powers come from the same root - the same "darkness" or "demon dimension" as a vampire's does. The thing that is different about a vampire is when a human is turned, the "soul entity" leaves the body and the "demon entity" or "demon power" enters it. The demon entity or power is no longer in the dimension, but now INSIDE the person. The demon animates the body and lives in it controlling the person's actions. Well, at least it TRIES to control the person's actions and it succeeds MOST of the time, but the thing is, the person isn't "completely" gone. The demon part is just that, only a part, replacing the soul, but the rest is the original person's personality, characteristics, habits, likes, dislikes, etc. There is kind of a battle of wills going on inside a vampire, except the demon half usually seems to be the stronger one and the more primal one, but traits of the original person, whether they be good or bad do show through. Hence, Harmony's friendship ability to hold off her demon against Cordy for a while, and Spike and Dru's ability to show humanity and love at times.
Now with Buffy, I believe the demon power isn't exactly inside her body like it is with a vampire, it flows THROUGH her body from the root/dimension. So she still is a "complete person," unlike a vampire, but she also has this dark bond running through her that is very powerful, very drawing - however - not really trying to control her actions. Now she feels this darkness, she feels the primal needs of sex, hunger for food, etc., and can easily give into it and follow it if she wants to, like Faith did, but she chooses not to. She normally resists it. But she is drawn to it. She is attracted to it. And that's why she is also easily attracted to vampires. She senses this same darkness in vampires.
With Angel, the "darkness/demon power" flowing through her is attracted to the "demon entity" in him and I suspect that her human self is just as attracted to the man he is. Now morally she knows "being" with a vampire is wrong. She has a soul, a conscience, so she actively chooses not to - most of the time - but in Angel's case, I believe he is a "complete person" - (has both a soul and his personality characteristics) but with a demon entity ALSO dwelling within him - a true battle. But his soul and conscience are stronger in this case. (Well, at least most of the time.) And since he has a soul, kind of like a moral loophole, Buffy could reasonably allow herself to love him, vampire and all.
OK, back to Buffy. She's different now.
I do not think her soul is still in heaven, nor do I think her human self is still in heaven with her slayer self here. I also don't buy that she is an angel. I believe she still is a "complete person" in every way. What I think is different, is that the demon power no longer flows through her anymore, it is INSIDE her now, just like with a vampire.
That's why Spike can hit her.
That's why she's having a hard time fighting this attraction she has to him.
That's why she's giving in to her primal needs more easily (sex, food - DAWN "She's such a pig after she slays.")
That's why her emotions are dulled and she has more of an Angel "blah" mood.
That's why it's hard for her to care about doing the right things anymore.
She is just "going through the motions" because she knows it's how she is supposed to behave, because after all, she still does have her soul, her conscience, and her personality characteristics. But she just isn't really feeling it.
In fact, I think she is feeling more of the darkness now. She has both a soul and a demon inside her wanting to be the leader. And I believe she senses this. She's not certain exactly what it is, though I think she suspects it's darkness, that's possibly why she's afraid to really let go - the darkness may take over then. But the only thing she knows for sure, no matter how hard she wants to fight it or deny it, she doesn't feel right. Something is wrong! And Spike is confirming this. And it's all hinting towards the bad and this scares the hell out of her.
And I suspect she is going to have a very horrible journey, spiraling downward as her demon half wins, and then I believe upward again as her good half wins. And she will hate and degrade herself every time for giving in to her demon side, well, hopefully not forever. She has to learn to forgive.
I know Joss said she will have more in common with Spike this year, and I think this is it, they both have to learn to accept and embrace the side of them they both keep fighting or they will never grow.
If this is true, you know what it may also mean...
The prophecy of what she is to become is fulfilled.
Now that the demon is inside her, she will have its full strength and complete power, and yes, immortality. There will be no more slayers called. She will have become the ultimate Slayer, the Final Slayer. A gift to the world.
