Subject: MelanieMarie's Letter of Introduction

Hi all!
I am a 37 yr old woman married 17 yrs with a 16 yr old daughter. My adventure started in March of 1999 with a three week episode of tingling/aching/numbness that started on the left side of my face and moved through my arms and legs. Many nights during this time I would wake up with my left arm in a normal position yet COMPLETELY numb. This was quite different from having your circulation cut off. It was like I had someone elses arm. Also experienced a wierd electrical current feeling traveling up and down my legs. All sx were worse at night. I was quite freaked out about this but as the sx subdided after three weeks I just chalked it up to a pinched nerve.

About a year later everything came back along with severe dizziness, fatigue, slurred speech, impared fine motor skills, etc.. After the bloodwork and MRI came back negative my neurologist put me on an SSRI - Celexa because his best guess was that my problems are due to a serotonin defficiency. The neuro also assured me that I couldn't possibly have MS as the MRI (brain only) was negative and it "always" shows on the MRI. He never mention doing any other diagnostics like MRI of the spine or Lumbar Puncture.

Now I wait. I am not pushing for anymore testing because I think that I may be in a remission and I have heard that diagnotics are more likely to read positive if they are done when you are mid flare. The worst of my sx have backed off and I am currently contending with involuntary muscle twitching, itching, bladder hesitency, achyness and the ever present wierd sensory stuff (tingles, BenGay running through the veins, etc.). I'm just taking it easy and waiting for a new symptom to rear it's ugly head so I can hi-tail it to the MS specialist who's name I got when I realized my Neuro is not very well informed.

Thanks for alowing me to drone on. It's very cathartic.

MelanieMarie
