I think that I swallow the wrong way, like it's a malfunction of the flap in the throat that moves to let air into your lungs via your mouth and throat, or closes off the lung pathway so food can go to the stomach. Sometimes it happens during the day, but more so at night. It makes me cough hard, for many minutes, just like I inhaled food into my lungs rather than swallowing it down into my stomach. Interestingly, it's a symptom that seems to wax when the other symptoms wane, and vice versa. It probably is a problem with nerve conduction to the flap (or whatever it is).
