Subject: So I had my LP done...

It wasn't bad at all. It was done at the hospital using a fluroscope (real-time x-ray). Had to lay flat on stomach, with left side elevated slightly. Needle went in on left side of spinal column. Small pinch. A little more discomfort as the numbing agent was injected. Only two instances of discomfort, both very quick. One was discomfort as the needle was making its way into the spine. The other was a random nerve hit, which cause a "zinger" through my left gluteus muscle. Doc said it happens, nerves float around like pasta in boiling water. This hospital did not make me stay. The procedure itself was finished in less than 10 minutes. The instructions were to lay down as much as possible for the next 48 hours. The headache was minimal and as soon as I lowered the head of my bed sufficiently, no headache. The 48 hour recovery period has more to do with letting the insertion site heal so CSF fluid doesn't continually leak. And the way to keep most pressure off the site is to lay down. If it doesn't heal, it will take another procedure and a week in bed. Anyway, the doc removed 13 cc's of CSF (2 cc's shy of 1/2 ounce). They run different tests, some quick, some not so quick. So that was my experience with an LP. The contrast injected into my hand during my MRI hurt 10 times worse.
