Willow walked into the library knowing that neither Oz nor Giles had heard the news. She needed to talk to Oz later in the day about her feelings toward the situation with Xander. Willow opened the door to find Giles and Oz reading some kind of books. She took a deep breath and approached her boyfriend and Buffy’s watcher.

Before she could speak, Giles looked up from his book and saw Willow. “Willow, do you know where Buffy is? I have to talk to her about Angel.”

Willow just sat down next to Oz and stared at the table. “Buffy’s not coming in for a couple days. Neither is Xander.”

Oz looked at his girlfriend and knew something wasn’t right. She looked a little upset. “What’s wrong?”

Willow returned her gaze at Oz and then at Giles. She decided to just tell them, there was no use in holding back the information. “Mrs. Harris was killed last night .”

Giles just plopped down the book and looked at Willow. “Dear Lord. Is Xander okay?”

“He’s not taking it very well. Buffy’s with him, and they went to see her body today at the morgue.”

Oz pulled Willow into a hug and she sat on his lap. “How did she die?”

Willow just stared at the floor. She didn’t want to let Oz see her upset. “Xander’s father killed her.”

“Xander must feel horrible.” Giles stated as he slumped into his chair.

Willow looked at the watcher, “Buffy’s staying with him to make sure that he’s okay. Her mother said that it would be okay if Buffy stayed with him for two days.”

Oz draped his arm around Willow’s shoulder and decided to give his best boyfriend postion. He gently kissed her on the cheek and rubbed her side. “We better check on Xander later today.”

Willow loved having Oz as her boyfriend. He was really what she needed and wanted to talk to after. “I think that Xander’ll like that. We need to talk during lunch, sweety.”

Oz nodded and returned, “No problem.”

Giles couldn’t believe what happened to Xander. He felt horrible in knowing that Xander had no mother anymore, and wondered what he would do with his father. “What do you think Xander’ll do about his father?”

Willow sighed, “Apparently Buffy and Xander are talking to him later.”

Oz just thought about something. He wanted to know where Xander would live. “Where’s he going to live?”

Willow responded, “He’s going to live with Buffy.”

Giles put on his glasses and glanced at the clock. He noticed that class was starting. “You two better go to class. We’ll visit Buffy’s house after school.”

Willow got off of Oz’s lap and nodded. “Let’s go.” Then she turned to her boyfriend. “Remember, lunch. I need to talk to you.”

Oz simply returned, “I got it.”

***Sunnydale Police Station***

Xander and Buffy walked inside holding hands. He turned to Buffy and swallowed, his nerves plainly written across his face.

She knew why he was hesitant. Xander would have to face off with the man that killed his mother. The best thing Buffy could do at the moment was be with him. She loved Xander and wanted what was best for him. “How you doing, Xander?”

Xander looked at Buffy and flashed a weak smile in response. He loved her so much, and now he knew that she felt the same way, but it just didn’t feel right to tell her yet. So much has happened in the last few days. It was almost unbelievable.

The very thought of Jesse coming from another universe trying to kill him and Buffy scared him. Then his mother was shot and killed by is father. He was lucky to have been kidnapped by Jesse, or his father would have killed him as well.

He looked at Buffy and some of the pain went away. She made him feel better because he was with the girl of his dreams and he felt great. He loved the fact that she loved him, and it didn’t hurt that she chose him over Angel.

Together they walked to the main officer. He took a deep breath and said, “Excuse me, Officer?”

The Officer looked in front of him and saw two teenagers. He wondered what this was about. The boy however looked a little like the man the put in custody the other day. “Yes?”

Xander looked at Buffy who showed him a comforting smile and then he turned back to the Officer. “I understand that you have a Mark Harris in your jail cell. Can we see him?”

The Officer wondered how the boy knew this Harris character, but then he figured it out. He looked at the boy and saw the resemblance, but he had to make sure. “May I ask who you are, son?”

Xander noticed the nametag the Officer was wearing and addressed him, “Sorry, Officer Parker. My name’s Alexander Harris and this is Buffy Summers. I believe that you have my father in custody.”

Officer Parker was surprised the kid knew his name, but then realized that he had his nametag on. He wondered if it was a good idea for Alexander to see his father, but knew that he had a right. Officer Parker nodded and got up from out of his chair. Then he walked from his desk to where Xander and Buffy stood. “This way, Alexander.”

Together they walked from the main office to the jail cells. Officer Parker opened the door up to allow them inside. He looked at Xander. “I’m sorry for your loss, Alexander. Your father is in the last cell.” Then he gestured to the man next to the door. “This is Aaron Masters. He’s the guard, and if anything happens between you and your father, Aaron will come to your aid.”

Buffy nodded, “Thank you.”

Officer Parker said his goodbye and closed the door.

“Like Officer Parker said, Mr. Harris is at the end.” Aaron told them.

Xander thanked him, and then he and Buffy walked to the last of the cells and saw Mark sitting in the corner.

Xander took a deep breath and looked at his father. So much rage was boiling in his blood, and he had a right. He wanted to kill his father, but then he would have been like him. Xander knew that he was better than his father, and he didn’t want to lower himself to his level. In a snappy voice, Xander said, “Hello, Father.”

The sound of Xander’s voice hit Mark’s spine and sent a chill down. Mark knew why his son felt the way he did. Mark got up from his corner and looked at his son. He walked over to where Xander stood and grabbed the bars. He said in a quiet voice, “How you doing, son?”

Xander couldn’t believe that this man called him a son. He didn’t want this man as a father. Mark had beaten him numerous times in the past and had finally killed his mother, the only person Xander loved other than Buffy and Willow. “You’ve got no right to call me your son. How could you? You actually killed your wife. What were you thinking!?”

Mark could understand the way Xander felt and decided to answer him back honestly. “I was drunk, and I was just fired—”

Before Mark could finish, Xander interrupted, “You’re always drunk! That’s no excuse for your actions, *Father!* My mother is *dead* because of *you!* I saw the body before coming here.” Xander started to cry a little. He let his father see his tears. “I might as well be called an orphan, because you’re not my father. You may have been the sperm carrier, but that’s all.”

Mark just looked at Xander and could see the pain in his eyes. There was so much pain in Xander’s soul, and then he looked at the girl standing in the corner of the wall, he ignored her. “It was an accident, son. I didn’t mean to... I loved my wife. You have to understand that!”

Xander shook his head in disgust. “You call what you had with my mother love! That’s not love, Mark.” He walked to over Buffy and brought her back with him. “You want to know what love is, *Father?* Love is what I feel for Buffy. She’s the person I think about when I wake up in the morning, and the person I think about when I go to bed at night. That’s what love is, Mark. I loved your wife, and you killed her!”

Mark felt like the wind was knocked out of him. Xander practically gave him the ole shove off. “I know what love is, Alexander! I loved your mother! And I am sorry, Alexander.”

Xander couldn’t take much more of this. He didn’t want to look at this person who called himself his father. He glared at the man in front of him and said with actual calmness, “I have no father. I don’t want to see you right now.” He turned to Buffy. “Let’s get out of here.”

Buffy understood Xander’s feeling, but then realized that he said that he loved her. She didn’t want to bring that up, and decided that it would be best to talk about it later. “Alright Xander, let’s do that.”

Xander draped his arm around Buffy’s shoulders and they headed out of the police station.

Mark wanted to say something, but before he could, his son and girlfriend were out of the hallway. This actually left Mark disappointed.

***Sunnydale Abandoned Warehouse***

Spike looked at Drusilla and Hyena Xander. He could tell that they would be a great team to work with. Spike wanted the chance to kill his third slayer, and he could feel in his bones that Buffy would be that very one. “Here’s what were going to do, we’ll just kill Buffy. No torture, just kill her.”

Drusilla walked over to Spike and rubbed his back. “Mommy likes the idea, Daddy. One dead slayer.” Then she looked at Hyena Xander. “How does Hyena like it?”

Hyena Xander couldn’t believe what was happening. Here he left Jesse’s team because they were all about torturing Buffy and killing her. Now, it appeared Spike just wanted her dead. That was the same thing to him, and he didn’t want a part of it. He walked over to Spike. “Let me get this straight. You just want to kill her!”

Spike nodded, “Pretty much, mate.”

Hyena Xander shook his head in disgust. “All you vampires are the same. It’s kill the slayer, drink her blood, and then kill someone else.”

Drusilla responded, “What else would we do, Hyena? Want to play with Miss Kitty?”

Hyena Xander pounced on Drusilla, “I want to eat Miss Kitty.” He smacked his lips. “That would be delicious.”

Spike didn’t like where this was going. He ran to where Hyena Xander had his Dru pinned on the ground. “Get off of her, canine!” Spike the grabbed him by the arm and threw him on the ground.

Crash!

Hyena Xander sprang to his feet and ran towards Spike. He quickly grabbed hold of him and pinned him against the wall. “Now listen to me, Spike! It’s always: kill, kill, kill. I want the hunt! I like the smell of the prey’s fear. I like the adventure; it so much makes the killing a victory.” He grabbed him from the wall and threw him to the floor.

Crash!

Hyena Xander headed for the door.

Spike got up in a sitting posting and waited for his dizziness to end. He had no idea that Hyena Xander could be so strong. Spike wanted him on the team more than ever. Before he could say anything, Hyena Xander left the warehouse leaving a confused Spike and Drusilla.

Spike would have gone after him, but the sun was out and he couldn’t leave until nighttime.

***School Cafeteria***

Willow and Oz were sitting alone in the cafeteria eating their lunch. It felt different not Buffy or Xander there talking with them, but they understood why neither of them was there.

Oz took a bite out of his hotdog and looked at Willow. He placed the sandwich down and asked, “What did you want to talk about?”

Willow sighed as she looked at the tabletop. So much confusion was in her mind. She wanted to know why Xander was with Buffy. Willow did know how he felt about her, and she thought that they made a cute couple. But she wanted to know why he wouldn’t want to live at her house. They were best friends since childhood, and now it felt like she got replaced. She pouted, “I just feel like I’m being replaced by Buffy. I know that Xander and her are in a relationship, but I’m his best friend. He should be living with me.”

“Is that what this is about? Xander not living with you.” Oz ventured.
Willow looked at Oz and saw the calmness in his face. It was his trademark, the simple, quiet man, with the sometimes sarcastic sentence. “That’s what it comes down to.”

Oz sighed searching his brain to see if he can say anything else, and then he found it, “It seems to me that Xander would rather live with Buffy because she’s his girlfriend. I know that’s what I’d want.”

“Why would you want that?”

Oz got up from his seat and went over to Willow. He wrapped his arms around her chest and kissed on the cheek. “More kisses for me.” He paused and turned to look into Willow’s eyes. “Also, you can never be replaced.”

Willow finally got what he was trying to tell her. “Why do you say so little?”

Oz replied with a small shrug, “It’s my trade mark.”

***The Summers House***

Buffy and Xander were in the living room. Buffy was sitting on the couch, and Xander was lying down with his head on her lap.

Xander looked up to Buffy’s eyes as she ran her fingers through his hair. He felt so much grief from losing his mother, but with Buffy with him, he felt better. As for his father, Xander considered himself to be an orphan. Mark had no right to be Xander’s father, after what he did. “Buffy?”

Buffy looked down at Xander and into his eyes. The eyes seemed to have a mixture of grief and love. “Yeah Xander?”

Xander sat back up and grasped one of her hands. He looked into her eyes and could see the love in them for him. “I want to thank you. If you weren’t there for me at the morgue or the jail, I would have lost it. I wouldn't have been able to talk to him. You give me strength, beyond anything.”

Buffy pulled Xander into a hug and they just sat there for a good fifteen minutes.

All of the sudden the door opened and in walked Joyce with a bag of groceries. She passed the living room and saw the two hugging. “How you doing, Xander?”

Xander pulled out of Buffy’s embrace and turned to Joyce. “I’m better, but it still hurts.”

Joyce placed the bag of groceries on the table in the living room and sat down in the chair in front of the couch. She took off her jacket and placed it on her lap. She looked at her daughter and Xander. “I get why you feel that way, Xander. How did things go with your father?”

At the sound of the word ‘father,’ Xander winced and diverted his attention to the floor. After, their conversation at the jail cell, Xander had concluded that he had no father. He looked back at Joyce. “I have no *father*, Joyce. I just can’t allow him to be part of my life anymore. I can’t even look at him.”

Buffy draped her arm around Xander’s shoulders. “I know you feel bad about him, Xander, but he is your father.”

Xander returned, “I know he is Buffy, but as far as I am concerned. I have no *father.* Why should I let him be mine? He beat me growing up and then killed my mother.”

Joyce understood why Xander felt this way. “You’re more than welcome to stay here with us, Xander. We may not have a father figure around here, but I can try and fit the role as your secondary mother. It’s up to you.”

Xander wondered what it would be like to have Joyce as his mother, and it sounded nice, but he knew that Lorraine could never be replaced. He assumed that Joyce knew that as well. “I'll have to think about that. As of right now though, you have another housemate. That is if you don’t mind me dating your daughter.”

“I don’t mind at all, Xander.”

***The Factory***

Jesse was pacing back and forth trying to come up with a new way to kill Buffy. Things didn’t look to good for him. He really didn’t care about Spike or Drusilla, but he did care about Hyena Xander.

“I don’t know what to do.”

Angelus looked at Jesse. “So we lost Spike and Dru. They were only holding us back. Hyena Xander was an annoying nuisance anyway.”

Vampire Xander had to agree. “Puppy’s right, Jesse—”

Angelus glared at Xander’s vampire version. “Don’t call me, Puppy!”

Vampire Xander shook his head and ignored him. He thought about the fight they had earlier, and noticed someone that could be very powerful on their side against the Scoobies. “I know what we can do, Jesse.”

Jesse was just about out of ideas, and he wanted to know what Vampire Xander had up his sleeve. “What can we do, Xander?”

Angelus couldn’t believe that Vampire Xander just ignored his comment, but he wondered what Xander had up his sleeve. “What’s your idea?”

Vampire Xander replied, “I think you should bring someone else to the group.”

“Who?” Jesse asked.
