Subject: New Crow Book

Just read the new crow book 'The Story Behind the Film' which answers a lot of questions - except the most important on - Why didn't they protect Brandon more?! There are so many if onlys - if only someone had cleaned the gun before they used it, if only they had a more experienced prop master there, if only they weren't pressured due to the movie budget, if only Massee had pointed the gun *away* from Brandon as he was supposed to, if only the hadn't made their own 'dummy bullets...it goes on and on. So many minor things that they *could* have done and *should* have done, and Brandon would be with us still. And it was such a fluke that the bullet fragment hit it where it did! It drives me crazy that such a stupid thing had to happen to such a good and talented man! Carelessness, greed, and not thinking took Brandon away from all...I hope all those that were involved *never* forget what happened and use better judgement and safety in the future.

Another thing I thought was strange was that the book said Eliza asked for certain scenes to be cut, especially those that involved the actress playing Shelly. Brandon wanted so badly to be taken as a serious, non-martial arts actor and was so looking forward to the scenes without the Crow makeup - and then to have them all cut! It feels to me like his legacy was diminished by this; those scenes should have been in the final movie if it was supposed to be a tribute to him. I wonder what he would have thought about it. I hate the thoughts of any of Brandon's last work ending up on a cutting room floor, especially when he was so tremendous in this, his last, movie!

I also thought it was a little strange that Eliza supposedly wore her wedding dress to Brandon's funeral. I think it would have been hard enough for her being there without having that reminder. But then, who knows another's mind? Then again, I was always very surprised that in every picture I saw of Eliza and Brandon, she was never smiling, while he always was. If it was me lucky enough to be with him, you wouldn't have been able to keep the smile off my face!
