That is the nature of our business. It will take some time, you are not yet over that really hard hump (the 1st year or so)and still must build up a dependable clients base of 80-100 clients which ought to keep you going year round. Word of mouth is the best type of advertsing so you may want to encourage your clients to think of you. Spend a samll amount of money on a newsletter which will remind your clients of you. Last minute plans are not a problem when they remember a petsitter is a call away. You cannot afford to spend without a plan now and like myself I got caught up in ads and the yellow pages and overspent. I find myself referring to the sitters in callers areas rather than getting the "deals" myself.
You might want to get seasonal work for those slow times if funds are really tight (that is what I do).
