Hi Anna,
Get used to it!! Often times a client will begin a message on my machine with, "I know this is last minute...". Others have neighbors or friends set up to care for the pets but they back out so we get called and it usually is last minute. Let us, as sitters, not forget, though, that we are asking a lot from our clients. That anyone in this day and age is willing to give us, strangers, the keys to their house still amazes me. It's up to us then to make as good an impression as possible. Sometimes that may be a bit of an inconvenience to us especially if the client is calling the day before they leave but it leaves a lasting impression on the people we are bailing out of a mess they got themselves into. I know what it's like to get called last minute, don't get me wrong, I don't care for it myself, but some of my best clients turned out to be the ones who wouldn't have dreamed of calling a pet sitter but didn't have a choice and now wouldn't go anywhere else.
