Subject: Vauxhall Cavalier overfueling problem

Hi

I have an N reg Cavalier 1.8i automatic.
It has started to run 'lumpily' at small throttle settings, even at speed. Comparing it with a car from the 'good old days' it is as if I have left the choke out.

My local mechanic cannot find the problem but suspects that somthing is causing the engine management system to overfuel the engine under certian conditions. This is highly plausable as the exhaust tailpipe is very 'sooty'.

My local guy suspects something like a 'iffy' temperature sensor but does not have the equipment to run a diagnosis on the management system.

Does anyone have any similar experiences?
