PUBLIC INVITED TO DISTRICT RECREATION MEETING

PALATKA, Fla., March 4, 2002 -- The public is invited to participate in the semiannual meeting of the St. Johns River Water Management District's northern region Recreation Advisory Council.

The meeting is Tuesday, March 19, from 9 a.m. until noon at the offices of England, Thims and Miller, 14775 St. Augustine Road, Jacksonville, located approximately one mile east of U.S. 1 and the community of Bayard.

District staff members will provide updates on recreation and land management and acquisition activities. Members of the public will have an opportunity to comment on recreational issues involving District lands.

The District acquires lands to provide flood protection, protect water supplies, restore and preserve water bodies, maintain wildlife habitats and provide compatible recreational opportunities to the public.

The northern region council, comprised of representatives from state and local government and recreational user groups, offers recommendations on public use issues related to District land in Alachua, Baker, Clay, Duval, Flagler, Marion, Nassau, Putnam and St. Johns counties.
