Thanks to Everyone Who Made The Extreme Challenge a Great Success!!!!

Thanks to Everyone Who Made The Extreme Challenge a Great Success!!!!

We had 49 very talented grapplers that showed up to put it on the line. Some great matches kids and adults.

If you made it thank you, if you didn’t then you missed out.

So far everything I have heard has been positive. We will see later on.

Another event soon to be in the works.

Possible “Extreme King of the Hill” event. No points, No time limit, last man standing event.

We’ll see what happens.

Thanks Again

James Speight

Thanks for putting this event on James. It was fun and the YMCA was really nice. More people should of come out for the event. Their loss.

I agree with Tracey. More people should come out and support some of the less expensive tournaments around. Kind of sad that someone throws a cost effective tournament and people think...oh it is cheap it must not be good. Yet they spend $60-$80 for ones that really do suck. It is going to take more people stepping up to really have cohesive grappling in this state.

Where was it located? What kind of medals were given out?

Anthony Huss did a very cost effictive tourney and had it every month. Hats off to all that have events for people to compete.

Some events are up to 15,000 just to open the doors the day of. Custom medals and insurance several thousand to rent the facility. It is done to make a quality World Championship.

I agree sometimes there should be cheaper events, The Nationls by Budweiser will be coming in July. It will be ran as good as the last two years after hiring Sok from Atlanta, after hiring him the 2nd year it ran alot smoother, so it will be ran well and be a better cost.

I would have have all my guys support any good event to help it grow. I come here once a week or every 2 weeks sometimes more. This time around, I wasn't there to even get the guys together. If I could have I would have asked all 4 of my schools to see if they want to go.

I simply want to make a good event for all.

I think there is a catch twenty two for competitors and people trying to host tournaments. Competitors want to get there moneys worth when they go to compete. Does that mean nice medals or kickass venue, in my opinion no. It means having the opporunity to have lots of matches against guys/gals from other schools in your same experience and weight category. The only thing is that at small tournaments it doens't always work. Often times weight categories are grouped together just to have a decent number of competitors in one division. Some folks feel this can only happen at the larger tournaments. But, the down side is that these large tournaments cost a lot. I guess this is in part due to the cost of running a large show like joe said. The only thing is that if you are like me I ain't exactly rolling with a lot of bling bling if you get my drift. You spend $60-80 to compete, not counting gas money, food, and hotel stay if it's far away. I'm not saying anything no one on here doesn't already knows. The answer to this one is ..... take up golf or bowling it's not so hard on the body!

I agree that the most important thing is to have divisions where you get several matches in and with other people from other schools. By far the least important thing, and an area where hosts of tournaments can save money, is medals/trophies. I think they are great for the kids but I don't know any of the adults who care about them at all. They just get thrown away. I'd rather pay a few dollars less or even keep the price the same and have the hosts get the money for the trouble they spent putting on the tournament rather than have a medal.

I do agree with both of you and that is why the Nationals presented by Budweiser will be a cost effective tournament and still at a nice venue with a lower entry fee (if all things work out). The medals will still be equally thick custom medals; but it is odd that NC had the smallest turn out at the Bud World Cup than any other state and one of the largest constructive critisizimes given by competitors for not having larger medals and nothing to do with cost. This is a NC forum and we would love to have more North Carolinians and we will do our best to do a show that will make everyone happy. But note: one thing that Remco Pardeoul did from Holland, he rolled openly with anyone that asked him to, over and over again and not for a medal and for sure if people wanted to roll again and not for competition we will allow this again. But I too understand that competitive spirit.

Joe,

Glad you are recovering from your accident.

Is the Bud World Cup a different tournament from the Nations? I know/think the Bud World Cup is the tournament you run that is usually in Jan in the Charlotte area. If the Nationals are different, when and where is that tournament?

I believe what you say about criticism regardling the medals but just have a hard time believing that adults are concerning with medals. I just haven't ever seen anyone concerned with that at tournaments but I could be wrong. Or maybe people just aren't admitting that they care to have a medal to take home??

Joe Hurst, glad you are dong well.

I don't think Jason was referring to any particular event. Just a little, frustrated with the local talent.

And I don’t think you can blame the first year, that you had an event, on the people who helped you. It was a learning process, on your part.

But we did give away generic medals to all of the kids that didn’t place. The ones that placed 1st-3rd got a trophy. All divisions got a trophy.

Course the bonus was that the absolute winner got a trophy, and rope hammock and a cheap hooker. Course we couldn’t advertise that, being that we are a family event.

Oh the 300 cents subject line, that what we cleared, $3.00 well I am happy. At least I didn’t lose money. And if anyone came to just watch, or tape the event, then thanks you put me in the black.

Just as the World Cup there will be an United States National Championship as well 6 months later by Budweiser. It will be ran well and will be very vost effictive, half price to enter, and cheaper to compete and still have nice medals. MMA may take longer, I am now just gettin healthy and if it doesnt't get passed or an inapproiate one does we can try to change that next year, Money and support not really a problem.

The World Chanpionships in Jan and the Nationls in July.

All details will be posted.

Respectfully,

Joe Hurst

Hey, I'm just curious if anyone got any pics of any of the matches from the event. There were some nice matchups and I know a few people had cameras (though Culbreth's were probably trained on the guy's butts only) so if there are any, maybe they can be sent to team roc's website.
