Combat Sports Challenge 6 Pushes the Limits of One on One Competition with the "River City Rumble"!
The Showplace in Richmond, VA will be the venue for the largest and most prestigious combat sports event that the city has ever seen. On April 30th , Combat Sports 2000, in conjunction with KTFO, will present a show with something for everyone, from Muay Thai, to MMA, to Submission Grappling. UFC, K-1, and ROF veteran fighter Duane "Bang" Ludwig will travel from Colorado to attend this event, along with "The Ultimate Fighter" reality show winner Forrest Griffin and runner-up Josh Koschek.
These guys put it all on the line for us to enjoy every Monday night on Spike TV, so come out to meet them and show your support. Come see these UFC stars!
The fight card features top Muay Thai and MMA talent from across the US and two pro matches. Pro Main Event in the Muay Thai division matches Virginia Beach's own Shawn Yarborough, who now fights out of Master Toddy's Gym in Las Vegas and is cornered by Kit Cope, against another former Tidewater resident, Stephen Richards, who now fights out of Master K's camp in New York City, in a 5 x 3 minute round match.
Pro Main Event in the MMA division matches South Carolina's Mushin Cobbrey from Team Lloyd Irvin (Irvin is the author of "The Grappling Blueprint") against Minnesota's Saul Mitchell from Minnesota Martial Arts Academy, home of UFC veteran Sean Sherk and trainer Greg Nelson.
The top amateur match will be a WKA US Amateur MMA Title match featuring WKA Eastern regional champion, Mike Easton (Team Lloyd Irvin) versus Gene Minajevs (Minnesota Martial Arts Academy) in a 3 x 5 minute round bout. Also WKA US Amateur Muay Thai Champion, Joe Murdough (Megalodon Gym, Georgia), will defend his title against up-and-coming Marcus Antebi (Five Points Muay Thai, New York) in a 5 x 2 minute round bout. WKA Eastern Regional Champion Roderick Melvin (Universal Martial Arts, Newport News, VA) will fight against hard-hitting Brian Robetson (Megaldon Gym, Georgia) in a 5 x 2 minute round bout.
The River City Rumble will have fighters coming from some of the top gyms in the country. Other top gyms include Hybrid Academy of Martial Arts (Virginia Beach, VA), Evolve Martial Arts Academy (Maryland), Royal Tiger Academy (North Carolina), Team Prodigy (Richmond, VA), and Modern Mixed Martial Arts Academy (Virginia).
A submission grappling superfight will be featured on the card: Jacob Young (Richmond BJJ/Richmond Top Team), a Copa Atlantica Brazilian Jiu Jitsu purple belt champion, will face Brad Pearce (Gustavo Machado), a Grapplers Quest Pro division veteran and Director of Grapplemania.
If that wasn't enough, the legendary Thai fighter Sakaseam "The Punisher" Kanthawong will be bringing his fighters from Utah to battle as well. Sakasem will also be holding a Muay Thai Seminar the morning of the event at Prodigy Martial Arts ( prodigyma@aol.com for more information). All are invited.
Come out on April 30th to the Showplace, 3000 Mechanicsville Turnpike in Richmond, VA (doors open at 6 pm, show starts at 7 pm) to see the finest display of strength, endurance, courage, and skill that you will ever see on one fight card!
